Homelessness started for me as a teenager, riding trains of NYC to have a place to rest in The City that Never Sleeps. From Chef to Human Services at Open Doors, another passion was ignited. There was a void that cooking could not fill. To be a Voice, to provide Action.
I started with Open Doors as an Intern, getting my foot in the door as a homeless service provider. Thriving as Outreach Case Manager for the greater Norwalk area; I am recognized for my relatability. Some ask, “Why do you do it?” I reply, “I’ve sat on the other side of the table” The unsheltered have become used to invisibility; not expecting anyone to approach them, say hello, or ask their name. Outreach is not just about identifying homelessness. We know it exists. Acknowledging it, takes passion. The road to ending homelessness is hard, but not impossible. I may not be able to help everyone, but everyone can help someone. The problem is not just homelessness, but solving the problem causing homelessness
